Celia Alves is a certified MOS Expert in Excel. She develops complex solutions combining Excel, VBA, Power Query and Power Pivot. Celia has a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Education from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. She has also worked as a high school Mathematics teacher for 20 years. In 2013 Celia moved to Canada.
After re-skilling, Celia Alves built a new career as an Excel consultant and trainer. She founded Solve and Excel Consulting.
Celia Alves is also a speaker and founder of the MS Excel Toronto Meetup Group. In 2020, she received the Microsoft MVP award in Office Apps and Services.

In this session, Celia Aves will explore some use case scenarios and fundamental Power Query features that will immediately start saving you time. One of the most common tasks Microsoft Excel users perform on a weekly / monthly basis is update various company reports. Normally, this process involves:
- extracting the data from one or several sources
- cleaning the data from any unwanted records
- fixing data entry mistakes
- altering the data layout so that it’s easy to analyze
- merging or combining from different imports
Often, this activity takes much longer than the data analysis or report generation itself. This is because most people update their reports manually. However, Power Query can automate these steps. Power Query is a built-in tool in Excel, which helps automate processes. The best part is, there is no need to write any code.
